[Abstract] This article discusses the importance of packaging education and training system to the development of packaging, expounds the necessity of training advanced packaging talents with innovative spirit and innovation ability, and analyzes the basic requirements and structural characteristics of innovative packaging talents. A theoretical system for cultivating innovative talents was proposed. Combining with the characteristics of packaging engineering of Nanjing Forestry University, this paper explores and practices the education model of compound talent cultivation.

Modern packaging engineering is a multidisciplinary discipline. Modern packaging is an organic combination of natural science and social science. The design teaching flow is superficial, formalized, and idealized, so that students can not effectively solve substantive problems in the packaging design and engineering in practical work.
As packaging design is a comprehensive cross-disciplinary, it involves many professional disciplines such as mechanics, materials science, printing technology, preservation and preservation technology and aesthetics, psychology, design science, marketing and so on. To this end, the curriculum design is based on cultivating talented people with innovative capabilities and taking into consideration the combination of literature, science, engineering and arts.
