At present, printing paper is mainly letterpress paper, newsprint paper, offset paper, coated paper, etc. The quality of newsprint, offset paper, and coated paper has been continuously improved in recent years. The domestic market of newsprint and offset paper has appeared to produce more than sell. At the same time, the domestic market began to pay attention to some new products.
â‘ Uncoated high-quality printing paper without wood pulp. At present, almost all printing papers that are not coated with no wood pulp are made by alkali method and a large amount of calcium carbonate filler is used. The performance of such paper products has been developing toward brighter and whiter direction. The brightness of uncoated wood pulp-free printing paper produced in Brazil, Europe and Asia in South America has reached 94o-96o, and the whiteness is> 150%. This type of paper not only has good printability and higher optical performance, but also can exhibit excellent image quality using inkjet, laser printing, and xerography. American International Paper has announced the expansion of its Color LokTM patented technology from producing only hp trademark paper products to producing IP trademark paper products. Hewlett-Packard also plans to sell this technology to other uncoated wood pulp-free mills.
â‘¡ Alternative paper grades without ground wood pulp paper. Alternative wood grades that do not contain ground wood pulp paper generally use mechanical wood pulp extensively, supplemented by fillers and light-weight sizing press coating. The finished paper can replace traditional uncoated high-grade paper products, and mechanical wood pulp can also be increased. The bulk of the paper, with the same paper thickness, the basis weight of the paper can be reduced by about 10%. The brightness of this alternative paper type is comparable to that of uncoated wood-free pulp paper. Alternative paper products that have been launched include: Offset webs of the Alternative Offset and Equal Offset brands of Abitibi, and BowHybrid brand printing papers of Bowater of the United States.
â‘¢Coated offset paper (FCO paper) and lightly coated paper with metering and sizing press. This is a high value-added paper grade. It is produced by the process of metering size press coating and heating soft calendering. The raw paper used has a higher mechanical pulp content. Compared with uncoated super calendered paper (SC paper), FCO paper has better printability in thermosetting offset printing, more suitable for gravure printing, and can reflect excellent smoothness and gloss. FCO paper is replacing uncoated SC paper and LWC paper, especially when used as a newspaper insert advertisement and low-price magazine paper.
â‘£Coated offset printing paper. The continuous development of thermosetting offset printing and the increase in postage have driven the market demand for ultra-lightweight coated paper (ULWC paper), and also a challenge to the anti-offset performance and opacity of paper. In order to cope with the increasing demand for high-quality image printing, pre-press and printing processes are developing towards the application of fine screening technology and fine printing.
⑤ The prospect of digital printing paper is promising. As a new printing mode, digital printing is developing rapidly. The growth of continuous wide-format inkjet printing business and the improvement of quality (close to the level of offset printing), the expansion from a single sheet of paper to web. It is bound to be used in the printing field of newspapers and magazines, so new paper grades with cationic surface properties are needed.
The constant changes in direct mail advertising and financial media will bring about the demand for new multifunctional paper types. To achieve pre-printing and variable data printing on high-speed printing production lines, the paper used must have high-quality multi-color printing performance suitable for both offset and digital printing. At present, there is no paper grade that meets this demand in the market. This will be a market area that needs to be developed urgently and is expected to develop rapidly.
