The weight of a standard 750ml ml bottle is generally 450g, and this ultralight bottle with the latest fine-neck pressure blowing technology in the current production of glass bottles weighs only 340g. This technology allows the glass to be more evenly distributed throughout the production process, so less material is needed to achieve better strength and tolerance. Nampak Wiegand has introduced the South Africa's lightest 750 alcoholic beverage bottle. Lighter packaging has reached a higher level.
OBG's Culemborg high volume range is the first beneficiary of this ultra-lightweight bottle. The DGB company’s managing director Pieter Marais said about their choice of bottles: “We used a standardized 450g bottle, and now this new ultralight bottle not only reduces the weight of the glass bottle by 24%, but we alone. Brands can reduce annual CO2 emissions by at least 100 tons.â€
Another reason why Nampak Wiegand's production process is highly praised is its raw materials. The use of broken glass in its raw materials is as high as 45%. Most of these glasses are collected through recycling measures. It is reported that the first annual output of the 340g ultra-light bottle is expected to be 2 million units, which can save 60 tons of raw materials. The target production in 2012 will be more than double this year.
