BASF builds SBC raw material blow bottle

The first time a machine manufacturer in Europe proved that BASF's Styrolux® 3G46 can be used for extrusion blow molding. Kautex Maschinenbau, a well-known manufacturer of blow-molding systems, recently used a styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC) to produce intricately shaped bottles in a high-performance extrusion blow molding plant. In early 2008, BASF launched the plastic product as a blow-molded brand.

Markus Holbach, head of Kautex Maschinenbau's Technical Laboratory in Bonn, Germany, stated: “We were surprised when we realized how easy Styrolux's extrusion blow molding process was. The transparency and high stiffness of the material were impressive. The use of this material in the production process and comprehensive treatment is very advantageous because the welding line can be formed without much effort. This SBC polymer has a lower processing temperature and a shorter cycle time than comparable packaging materials. And the weight of this plastic is much lower than that of PET or PVC, which makes Styrolux a cost-effective material for extrusion blow-molded products.
