Japan has developed a new process for the production of liquid crystal polymers

Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. is a famous manufacturer of liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) for advanced engineering plastics. The Singapore branch of the company developed a new process for the production of liquid crystal polymers using organic catalysts.
According to reports, the new process uses an organic matrix catalyst, which significantly increases the degree of reaction between the monomers of the reactants and improves the reaction efficiency. In addition, it also greatly limits the occurrence of undesired side reactions. At the same time, with the progress of the polymerization reaction, the reaction temperature increases, the organic catalyst and by-products are separated from the reaction system of the reactants, and will not exist in the liquid crystal polymer. Since the catalyst of the new process has high activity, the reaction can be guaranteed fast. It can improve the reaction efficiency. With this new process, Sumitomo Chemical's production capacity of liquid crystal polymer production facilities in Japan's Ehime region will double to 4 kt/yr, while the installation of new catalysts will require very little outlay.
