Carton Design Process and Key Points (I)

In the structural design of corrugated cartons, we often encounter insufficient input of design conditions, which makes it impossible to design or must re-acquire various conditions for design input, reducing work efficiency; more serious is caused by inadequate design conditions Defects in process production, batch production, and deviations from design intent may even occur when the customer does not meet the requirements. This article discusses some solutions to these problems from the management process of carton design.

Many people compare the design and development of this piece of management process to a small ISO9000 system. This is not an exaggeration. Because of the many contents it covers and the large number of people involved, it is not only necessary to communicate face-to-face with customers, but also to communicate with each process within the company. Only the true understanding of the customer's intentions, and the complete conversion of the customer's intentions into qualified products, in line with the customer's expectations in the use of a product design is completed. It is worth noting that such a tedious process cannot be accomplished based on the experience of several designers alone. We not only need to integrate the experience of various designers, but also need to adopt strict management procedures to promote the orderly progress of these tasks, and ultimately to achieve the fastest and optimal speed to design products that satisfy customers.

The design of a professional designer must meet the following conditions:

Ø Document the design input and output conditions (especially the customer's research to prevent the forgotten of various input conditions);

Ø Negotiate the most practical hand-over process for each process handover point;

Ø Fast, simple handling procedures and more.

The entire carton structure design process is actually a very simple input to output process. Starting from the input, the structural design input conditions include the following three aspects:

Ø Customers report directly or through communication tools;

Ø The customer passes the industry representative declaration;

Ø Designers acquire through market research (this includes the planned investigation of customer information acquisition within the organization or the investigation that the first two conditions cannot meet the design requirements).

Regardless of the type of input used to obtain the input, at least the following design input is required:

Ø The nature, shape and size of the contents;

Ø The weight of the contents;

Ø Content display;

Ø Transportation methods and stacking methods of contents;

Ø The storage environment, transportation route and transportation time of the goods;

Ø Carton box type and production materials that the customer expects;

Ø Customer's required delivery time, etc.;

Ø Environmental requirements or related laws and regulations;

Ø Some other customer requirements.

For the design of the input conditions, as far as possible the form of a written form; if conditions permit, you can also use the packaging review. Before conducting research on a customer, it is necessary to first understand and consult the product type, market area, value of the product, distribution distribution system, product size, and packaging of the customer's product or other customer's similar product. When investigating, all the tools used in the survey should be brought together, such as pens, 3m tapes, calculators, notebooks, research forms, etc. Only full and careful preparation can obtain more and more accurate design information, so as to design a competitive carton product to meet customer expectations and requirements.
