[running equipment] talk about cross-country running backpack

Pick a running backpack: Many endurance events require you to carry all the equipment and food for a multi-day event, so picking a backpack/canvas backpack that suits you is extremely important.

Weight, comfort, and convenience are key factors. A 25 to 30 litre high-tech backpack is usually the most suitable, whether you are a small 150cm (4'11”) or 200cm (6'7”) giant.

1. Weight

The first thing to consider is two options. Do you want a more rugged backpack that can reduce stress and weight on the back and thus provide support, or do you want a super lightweight backpack that loses support but you get lighter weight?

2. Comfort

Adding padding to the belt and shoulder straps increases comfort and stability, but they also add weight to the entire backpack. If you have weaknesses then decide where you need support. Carry out some long-distance training studies on your backpack. Determine the proper belt adjustment, chest, and strap position based on your body type and running posture. Small chest pockets can be added to many rucksacks, and some find it more comfortable to spread the weight over the front and back of the body.

3. Convenience

Side pockets and belt pockets allow you to get necessary food supplements (energy bars, gels, snacks, electrolytes, etc.) without having to remove the backpack. This is very important when you are in the race because you need to add energy soon. The pockets on the chest can be very close when extra supplies must be easily accessible and you will find them comfortable. Attaching a water bottle holder to the shoulder strap is another thing to consider because it is crucial to have easy access to the water, and if you plan to pass the test station quickly, the water bottle fills up faster than the drinking water device in the backpack.

4. Training backpack

Of course you need to train with your running backpack a few times to make sure it fits well into the distance you plan to complete. It is ideal to perform one or two times a week two months before the game. However, if you want to carry a lot of training with a backpack and also decide to use a very lightweight running backpack, it is probably not the best idea to use a running backpack for long-term training. The super lightweight backpack is not designed for long-term durability and you would not want to break its material or seams before the game. In this case you should make maximum use of the training backpack.

The training backpack can be slightly heavier than the backpack you used for the game, and it is more durable because you will not carry it for 250 km. Or you can simply buy two identical game backpacks, one for training and the other for playing.

Many participants packed rice bags in their backpacks during training because the weight was easy to adjust and comfortable. Many other things can also be used to control weight, including textbooks, water bottles and so on. However, a bag of 3-5 kilograms of rice (or any other item) that falls on the bottom of your backpack will break apart at the seams of any lightweight, good-quality backpack and will put pressure on the material during years of training. You are still running.
