Which fleece is the best? In the past three years, we have tested 22 top-sweeping trousers on foot, camping, climbing and skiing to find out. We are on these jackets, from the thin, very breathable, underwear-friendly style to the thick, comfortable ones that pack you into a polar bear style, and we breathe, windproof, function, weight to them. Assess the size of the pockets, identify the best versatile fleece jackets, and the best fleece jackets for specific sports such as hiking, skiing and climbing.
How to pick the right fleece?
When Patagonia’s Patagonia launched the first Synchilla in the fall of 1985, the Sweatshirt has evolved significantly today. The modern velvet is very warm and light, very easy to compress and super comfortable. Even if the flannel is wet, it is still warm, but under the same weight, the flannel is not warm with synthetic cotton. Feather is the warmest material for warmth, but it is not warm after being wetted, so it is not suitable for mid-layer clothing for high-intensity sports. Grab the fleece is the most suitable for the middle layer, the outside can be put on a windproof or waterproof Jackets, or a warm thermal jacket. If you want to build a functional apparel system that all outdoor sports require, grabbing a fleece is one of the key components.
If you want to buy a more casual, affordable jacket that you normally wear, then you can also consider buying a lighter soft shell, such as Patagonia Patzeonia Adze, which is softer than we tested. Other fleece suits are better suited as a separate coat. Down jackets and synthetic cotton jackets are warmer than fleece at the same price and are more suitable for jackets than fleece jackets.
The type of fleece:
In this test report, we included 22 types of fleece jackets of all types and styles. They can be divided into the following four types:
1. Light weight grabs: best suited for technical outdoor sports, suitable for all weather conditions and various types of sports. Our testers suggested that this kind of fleece should have a hat.
2, medium weight grab fleece: suitable for the cold winter as a middle layer of clothing, or as a separate jacket for daily wear; the best combination of outdoor performance needs and daily fashion needs.
3, re-catch Rongrong: suitable for everyday casual wear. They usually weigh more than a pound (454 grams), are more expensive and a bit bulky, but they are very comfortable.
4. Compound grabs: Different types of fleece material and/or fleece material plus synthetic cotton material are used in combination. Suitable for very special sports such as alpine climbing.

Evaluation criteria
We scored the warmth, weight, package size, comfort, breathability, wind resistance, and functionality of each fleece.
Warmth:
The thicker the fleece jacket is, the more it can hold more air around your body, so it is warmer. A very warm fleece is only used for some special adventure activities. We think that thick fleece (weight over 1 pound/454 g) does not perform well in most outdoor activities because they are worn during sports. too hot. Mountain Hardware Monkey Man wins Patagonia R3 to become the warmest grab fleece, it has a waist design, so that it can more seize the air. The hat design plays an important role in warming performance. Lightweight fleece jackets usually carry a hat.
Lightweight fleece jackets, such as Patagonia R1 Hoody (Brad Miller wearing it in Alaska), are suitable for wearing in the cold season or usually as underwear or middle layer, they are the most common fleece, and we test The most used fleece.

Comfort:
Thicker, fluffy fleeces are usually more comfortable than thinner ones. You feel like you are wrapped in a fluffy blanket. Mountain Hardware Monkey Man and Patagonia R3 scored the highest points of comfort with greater advantage. Patagonia R2 also has a high score, and comfort is not much different from R3.
Feature:
The design of the hat is a critical part for light weight fleece clothing. If the fleece jacket carries a comfortable and warm hat, the hat can serve as a substitute for the balaclava hat (note: a hat that wraps the whole head and only exposes the eyes.) You feel comfortable when wearing a helmet or a coat hat, and unlike a single hat that is easily lost, the hat will always follow you. Lightweight hats with a hat are the most used fleece styles used by our testers. By perseverance in finding the best type of fleece in this category, we found that the best hat is the type that can cover your face and mouth when you need it. Patagonia R1 Hoody and Archaeopteryx Arc'teryx Fortrez scored the highest scores in this project because every piece of clothing, including the hat, is near perfect.
A comfortable and warm hat is essential for light weight fleece. In this figure, Max and Zeb wear Patagonia R1 Hoody (left) in comparison with the Outdoor Research Radiant Hybrid. R1 Hoody has a warm and more comfortable jaw seal.

Breathability:
Breathability is one of the important reasons for choosing a fleece jacket rather than other types of warm clothing. Of the very lightweight (less than 10 ounces/283 g) that can be tested in this report, the Patagonia Capilene 4 Hoody is the most breathable and can be worn as underwear for our favorite winter wear. One. Many other fleece clothes also have similar breathability. Only a few old-style shags, such as Mountain Hardware Mountain Tech and North Face Denali, scored low in this item.
A very breathable fleece, such as Mountain Equipment Eclipse Hooded Zip Tee, can also be worn as underwear during high-intensity exercise at low temperatures.
Waterproof:
Sweatshirts are generally not intended to be waterproof. If you plan to buy a fleece, it is best not to think it has a waterproof function. We did not score the waterproofness of the fleece. Although some scratch-resistant fabrics with hardwearing materials, such as Arc'teryx Fortrez Arc'teryx Fortrez, have a long-lasting water-repellent chemical coating, they can provide water resistance (usually weeks to months of wear) before it is worn, but we recommend that you Grab a rain jacket or jacket in a fleece jacket to achieve waterproof and windproof. Again, it's best to use a fleece as a middle layer instead of a separate jacket.
(Note: The author seems to be somewhat arbitrary in this regard. The fleece with waterproof and windproof capabilities is particularly useful in the rainy season in southern China, or in the high-altitude regions where winds and rains are unpredictable, the summer heat and the next moment it rains and snows. This environment also has a great effect. Light rain, light snow, showers, and snow showers do not need to be pulled out of the bag.
Wind resistance:
To increase the windproof performance of the fleece, you can add a layer of windproof film to the middle of the fleece material, such as Gore Windstopper film (which was popular in the 1990s and the beginning of this century), or increase the outer fabric of the fleece jacket Density, or use composite materials. Although increasing the windbreaker resistance of the fleece can make the fleece dress more suitable for everyday wear, it also increases weight, pack size, and reduces comfort. When you need wind protection, a windproof jacket (some of these jackets weigh only 2 ounces/56 grams) is more effective when you grab the tunic. Therefore, the windproofness only accounts for 5% of the weight of the fleece score. We score the windproofness of each fleece jacket more for comparison. Of all the tested fleece jackets, Mountain Hardware Tech with windproof membranes is the most windproof jacket; we recommend wearing it mainly during the day out, wandering around the city. The Patagonia Nano Puff Hybrid, which uses some synthetic cotton on the chest and shoulders, and other parts of the R2 material, adds warmth without significantly reducing breathability or adding weight.
Patagonia Nano Puff Hybrid fleece jacket. It does not tend to be used as a jacket, but the area using synthetic cotton (red area) increases the wind and rain protection capabilities, while the R2 fleece material (orange area) in other areas has very good air permeability. fashion
Many donkeys wear zhuarong as a daily jacket, so we asked our friends who participated in the test to evaluate the fashion elements of their favorite fleece clothes. We found that fleece jackets with a smooth surface were more attractive than those with rough, furry, high-loft fleece jackets. In other words, the most excellent fleece in the outdoors is seen by the city as the most unsightly. Patagonia Better Sweater is the most fashionable jacket we tested. It has a look similar to the sweaters we wear every day. There are Archaeopteryx Arc'teryx Fortrez and Archaeopteryx Arc'teryx Hyllus Hoody. These two fleece jackets look similar. The soft shells have a smooth, wear-resistant outer layer and are able to remain fresh for a long time because they do not pill like other scratch-resistant fleeces (eg Rab Logan, Patagonia Better Sweater). (Note: Arc'teryx's craft is NB!)
Arcteryx Hyllus Hoody (left), the archaeopteryx with a wear-resistant outer layer, does not pillilize, unlike Rab Logan (right) and Patagonia Better Sweater (not in the photo), and stays bright for a long time.

Weight and package size
Lighter fleece jackets are less cumbersome and comfortable to wear. They also take up less space when packed. The weight of the fleece models in this test report ranged from 25.5 ounces (723 grams) to 7.7 ounces (218 grams). The North Face The North Face TKA 100 and the Patagonia Capilene 4 Hoody are the lightest and most compact models of fleece tested.
Mesh fleece has excellent breathability, a very high warmth/weight ratio, and a small package size. On the left is Patagonia Capilene 4. On the right is Patagonia R1. (Note: Patagonia's thermal underwear C2/C3/C4 and fleece R1/R2/R3 are the trump cards of its family.)
Editor's Choice Award: Patagonia R1 Hoody
No fleece like Patagonia R1 Hoody was liked by our testers and didn't want to take off. This jacket for outstanding performance lacks a stylish appearance. Patagonia has been optimizing R1 Hoody for these years – until, perfect! ? This fleece has two main features that make it far more than other models on Patagonian's fleece product line, as well as other companies' similar product lines:
(1) Its long hem can be tucked into the trousers, in the belt, in the seat belt, and it won't shrink in motion and fall out like most other fleece we test. This feature will allow you to climb the rock, reach out to the top of your head, or use trekking poles or ski poles to help in the wild. This fleece will not fall out of your belt and it will be warmer than other models. .
(2) Its balaclava-like hat is super comfortable and warm. No matter what you do, it stays firmly in your head. We are convinced that this fleece is (the world's) the best catching fleece for rock climbing, ice sports and alpine climbing. It is also our favorite when we are doing other major outdoor activities such as walking, backpacking and so on.

Best Donkey Choice Award (without cap): Patagonia R3
Our testers usually liked the fleece with a hat, but we found that many donkeys did not have such a common hobby, so we awarded the best donkey selection award to a fleece jacket without a hat: Patagonia R3 . The jacket has just released its latest version in the fall of 2013. It is a super-breathable, ultra-comfortable mid-weight fleece, which is suitable for high-intensity sports in the cold season and for everyday casual wear. Other sporting fleece clothes do not look good. Because it does not have a hat, we like to use it with a Balaclava hat when climbing and skiing in very cold seasons.

Best Donkey Choice Award (Fashion): Archaeopteryx Arc'teryx Fortrez
Archaeopteryx has not made any good light weight fleece for many years. Our testers patiently waited until 2013 when the company combined their clothing skills with the Arc'teryx Fortrez hoody, an extraordinary combination of fashion and functionality. Fortrez uses Polartec Wind Pro wear-resistant fabric that is slightly stronger than Patagonia R1/R2/R3. Its slightly tightly knitted outer fabric looks more like soft shell than fluffy fleece, which makes you look more harmonious when walking in the city. (Note: Unlike other odd-shaped outdoor clothing. ) This material is also more dust and wear resistant than other fleece materials we tested. Many other companies also use Fortrez's materials for fleece clothing, but none of them are comparable to Arc'teryx in terms of details and design. The secret weapon of this jacket is a balaclava hidden behind the hat that covers your face when needed – this is an awesome, unique feature. Unfortunately, this jacket doesn't have a long hem, which is why our testers recommend R1 Hoody when they are outside in technology. For most donkeys, this is a lightweight, lightweight fleece that is ideally suited for multiple purposes, especially if you are concerned with ergonomics that exceed absolute performance.

Best Buy Award: North Face North Face Khumbu
Our best purchase award was awarded to the North Face North Face Khumbu jacket because it is only half the price of other jackets. Although it is not particularly suitable for outdoor sports, not very breathable, light weight, or comfortable, this is the cheapest we have ever used a fleece jacket made of flannel. We recommend to budget less, or just need a warm jacket that is worn everyday, or a donkey who wears ordinary outdoor clothes.
